Product Description

SIMTEK D10.4758.02.10 YR X800 Carbide Turning Insert CNC Internal Profiling Insert R0.2 for Small Bore Machining

Short description A 20 mm indexable insert drill body (U-drill) built for 3×D hole making on CNC lathes and machining centers. Twin insert seats, screw-through-hole clamping, helical flutes and axial through-tool coolant deliver fast, repeatable Ø20 mm holes without regrinding — you index or replace the inserts instead of the body.

2. Product Highlights

1. Ø20 mm hole size, pre-set for 3×D drilling The body is a dedicated 20.00 mm (0.7874") drill, not an adjustable one, so every tool in the shop cuts the same nominal diameter. Usable length is 60.43 mm with a published maximum drill depth of 64.00 mm — enough for roughly three times diameter in a single pass.

2. Twin insert seats: 04-C outer + 04-P centre Two independently seated inserts share the cut. The size 04-C insert forms the periphery and the size 04-P insert forms the centre, which balances cutting forces and reduces the thrust load on the spindle compared with single-insert drilling.

3. Screw-through-hole clamping for quick indexing Inserts are clamped with a screw through the hole, so changing an edge means loosening one screw, indexing the insert, and re-tightening to the published torque of 7.97 in-lbf (0.90 Nm). No regrinding, no re-setting of the body.

4. Axial through-tool coolant at up to 10 bar (145 PSI) Coolant enters axially and concentrically through the shank and exits at the cutting edge, flushing chips straight out of deep holes and controlling heat at the edge — the single biggest factor in reliable 3×D drilling.

5. Helical flutes and an 88° point angle Helix flutes plus a near-flat 88° point give stable entry and continuous chip evacuation, which is what keeps hole position and straightness repeatable over long production runs.

6. Hole tolerance you can control Published achievable hole tolerance upper limit is +0.25 mm (0.0098"), and the body provides up to 0.9 mm (0.0354") of radial adjustment, so you can trim hole size to fit your finished-bore requirement.

7. Rigid flanged shank for high-speed running The 25.00 mm cylindrical ISO 9766 flanged shank with a Weldon flat seats rigidly in standard holders and is rated up to 21,500 rpm — high-speed capability without a dedicated spindle interface.

8. Lower cost per hole The cutting edges are consumable inserts, not the body. In production the body stays in the machine and you index edges, so tool cost tracks edges used rather than whole-tool replacement.

5. Applications & Use Cases

Where this body fits

  • CNC lathes and turning centers with through-coolant supply — Ø20 mm holes drilled as part of a turning cycle.
  • Machining centers and drilling stations where a 3×D Ø20 mm hole is the standard size across a part family.
  • Batch and series production — the two-insert design and indexable edges suit repeated hole making better than regrinding one-piece drills.
  • Deep-ish holes in one pass — up to 64.00 mm depth, typically followed by boring or reaming when a tight finished tolerance is required.
  • Typical workpieces include flanges, plates, manifolds, shafts and general machined components where a consistent Ø20 mm hole is a recurring feature.

Before you order, confirm three things

  1. Coolant — through-tool coolant at around 10 bar (145 PSI) is the working condition for 3×D drilling; dry running is not recommended.
  2. Holder interface — the 25.00 mm flanged cylindrical shank with Weldon flat must match your holder.
  3. Insert grade — select the insert grade to suit your workpiece material and cutting data. Insert grades are chosen separately from the body; tell us your material and we will match the grade.

6. Operating Notes
  • Coolant: axial concentric through-tool supply, published working pressure 145 PSI (10 bar).
  • Clamp screw torque: 7.97 in-lbf (0.90 Nm) — use a torque wrench; under-torque causes edge movement, over-torque damages the seat.
  • Speed limit: up to 21,500 rpm for this body; always verify the practical limit against your insert grade, holder and machine.
  • Cutting direction: right hand only.
  • Hole size control: up to 0.9 mm radial adjustment is available; published achievable upper tolerance is +0.25 mm.
  • Handling: inspect the insert seats and clamp screws at every edge change; replace worn screws and damaged seats before re-cutting.

7. What's in the Box
  • 1 × indexable insert drill body, model 880-D2000L25-03
  • Cutting inserts: not included (order size 04-C and 04-P inserts separately)
  • Clamp screws and spare parts: order separately

Packing: supplied in a protective tube, one body per tube, with the model marked on the label.

8. FAQ

Is this a complete drill or only the body? Only the body. It needs two inserts — one size 04-C (outer) and one size 04-P (centre) — which are ordered separately.

What diameter and depth will it drill? Ø20.00 mm (0.7874") to a maximum drill depth of 64.00 mm (2.5197"), i.e. a 3×D body.

Do I need through-coolant? Yes. The body is designed for axial through-tool coolant at around 10 bar (145 PSI). Adequate coolant flow is what makes 3×D drilling reliable.

How often do I change inserts? You index or replace the cutting edges — the body stays in the machine. That is the point of an indexable drill: no regrinding of the body.

What tolerance can I expect? The published achievable hole tolerance upper limit is +0.25 mm (0.0098"), with up to 0.9 mm (0.0354") of radial adjustment for fine control. For tighter finished bores, drill and then bore or ream.

Which insert grade should I buy? It depends on your workpiece material and cutting data. Send us the material and application and we will recommend the matching grade.
