Product Description

SIMTEK D08.0006.12 VR X400 Carbide Grooving Insert CNC Full Radius Internal Grooving Tool R0.6 W1.2 Min Bore 8mm

Short description A precision-ground carbide grooving insert from the SIMTEK simturn DX system that cuts a complete round-bottom groove in one pass — R0.6 mm radius, 1.2 mm groove width, in bores from Ø8 mm. Right-hand (VR) version, supplied in grade X400. Insert only; the matching simturn DX toolholder is ordered separately.

2. Product Highlights
  1. One insert forms the whole groove The insert is a full-radius form tool: the R0.6 mm radius generates the finished round-bottom profile in a single plunge, and the 1.2 mm width equals twice the radius, so the groove comes out fully formed — no second tool, no blending pass, no form-grinding of a special.
  2. Built for small bores from Ø8 mm With a minimum bore diameter of 8.0 mm, this insert reaches internal grooves that are normally hard to produce with conventional grooving tools. It is the type of cut the simturn DX system was designed for: internal machining of small parts, with more than 2,000 standard items covering the range.
  3. Right-hand (VR) — left-hand match available This article is the right-hand version, which suits the standard insert seat and spindle direction. If your setup needs the opposite orientation, the same geometry exists as a left-hand (VL) article, so one product family covers both arrangements.
  4. Grade X400, with X800 as an alternative Supplied in SIMTEK grade X400. The identical geometry is also available in grade X800 — tell us your workpiece material and cutting data and we will match the grade that fits your operation.
  5. Screw-clamped on the toolholder front face (connect code D08) The insert is fixed with a screw on the front side of its toolholder, which keeps the seat rigid and repeatable and makes edge changes a minute of work. Match it to any simturn DX toolholder with connect code D08.
  6. Full geometry data for programming and offsets R 0.6 mm, w 1.2 mm, ØDmin 8 mm, tmax 1.0 mm, f 4.8 mm, a 7.8 mm, S 3.3 mm, Ød 6 mm — published dimensions you can enter straight into your CAM setup or tool-offset sheet instead of measuring an insert yourself.
  7. Because the radius is the finished profile With a full-radius insert, insert consistency directly drives groove size. Precision-ground carbide with repeatable R0.6 geometry means fewer size checks, less rework and more predictable tool-life planning across a production run.
  8. One webcode for everything The webcode AHUE references the catalog page, technical drawing and cutting-parameter documents for this insert, so ordering, re-ordering and internal tool-list maintenance all point to the same reference.

4. System & Compatibility
System SIMTEK simturn DX — carbide inserts screwed to the front face of the toolholder
Toolholder match Any simturn DX toolholder with connect code D08
Alternative grades (same geometry) X800
Alternative orientation (same geometry) D08.0006.12 VL X400 / X800 (left hand)
Related sizes in the same system simturn DX covers 15 insert sizes; the same full-radius geometry is offered at other ØDmin / w combinations

The insert is supplied on its own. No toolholder, no clamp screw set and no alternate grade is included. If you need a complete ready-to-run tool, tell us your machine, bore size and groove tolerance and we will quote the insert together with the matching D08 toolholder.

5. Applications & Use Cases
Where this insert works
  • Internal round-bottom (full-radius) grooves in turned parts — the profile is produced in one plunge by the R0.6 form radius.
  • Radiused seat and relief profiles that run inside a bore, where a square-cornered grooving tool would need a second operation.
  • Small-part machining on CNC lathes, including Swiss-type and sliding-head machines, for bores from Ø8 mm upwards.
  • Series production where groove size has to stay repeatable part after part — indexing the edge restores the cutting geometry without touching offsets.
  • Typical work areas include medical and instrument components, watch and precision mechanics, hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, automotive small parts and general precision engineering. Suitability depends on your workpiece material — confirm the grade with us before production.
Confirm these three points before ordering
  1. Bore and groove size — the bore must be Ø8 mm or larger, and the groove must be a 1.2 mm wide full-radius profile (R0.6 mm).
  2. Insert orientation — this article is right-hand (VR). Check whether your toolholder and spindle direction need the left-hand VL version instead.
  3. Grade — X400 is supplied as standard for this article. Send us the workpiece material and we will confirm whether X400 or X800 is the better fit.
6. Operating Notes
  • Depth of cut: maximum tmax is 1.0 mm. Work within the published limit and control chip formation with suitable feed and coolant.
  • Cutting data: use the manufacturer's cutting-parameter document as the starting point, then adjust to your machine, material and rigidity.
  • Clamping: keep the seat and clamp screw clean; a worn screw or a dirty seat shows up immediately as groove-size scatter.
  • Edge changes: index or replace the edge as soon as the radius shows wear — with a full-radius insert, edge wear goes straight into the groove profile.
  • Coolant: use a directed coolant stream into the groove; chip evacuation in small bores is the main driver of tool life.
7. What's in the Box
  • 1 × SIMTEK simturn DX full-radius grooving insert, model D08.0006.12 VR X400, grade X400
  • Toolholder, clamp screw set and alternate grades: not included
  • Supplied individually, marked with the model number on the packaging
8. FAQ

Is the toolholder included?

No. This product is the insert only. It fits simturn DX toolholders with connect code D08 — send us your application and we will quote a complete tool.

What groove does it produce?

A 1.2 mm wide, round-bottom (full-radius) groove with an R0.6 mm radius, up to 1.0 mm depth of cut per pass, in bores from Ø8 mm.

Right hand or left hand?

This article is right-hand (VR). The same geometry is also produced as a left-hand (VL) article.

Which grade should I order?

This article is supplied in grade X400; the same geometry is also available in grade X800. The choice depends on your workpiece material and cutting data — ask us and we will confirm.

Can I use it on a Swiss-type lathe?

Yes — the simturn DX system is designed for internal small-part machining, and D08 is one of its smaller insert sizes. Confirm holder, overhang and coolant with us for your machine.

How do I re-order the same insert?

Quote the model D08.0006.12 VR X400 or the webcode AHUE; both refer to the same tool.
